Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested that a diplomatic agreement between Iran and Israel is achievable, provided both sides engage in careful negotiations. Speaking at a televised event with foreign journalists, Putin stated that Israel’s recent strikes on Iran had inadvertently strengthened Iranian society’s unity behind its leadership. He also refused to entertain speculation about Israel targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, calling the notion counterproductive.
Putin emphasized the need for a balanced solution that addresses Israel’s security concerns while allowing Iran to pursue a civilian nuclear program. “This is a delicate issue, and we must be very cautious,” he said. “But in my opinion, a solution can be found.” He expressed hope that international efforts could help halt hostilities and encourage dialogue between the conflicting parties.
The Russian leader also referenced Russia’s ongoing cooperation with Iran in the nuclear energy sector, particularly at the Bushehr power plant, which was built by Russia’s Rosatom. Putin noted that over 200 Russian specialists are currently working at the facility and reiterated that Russia remains committed to ensuring Iran’s nuclear interests while maintaining security assurances for Israel.
Putin’s remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with global powers urging restraint. His call for a negotiated settlement aligns with broader diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation. Whether his proposal gains traction remains uncertain, but his stance underscores the importance of dialogue in resolving one of the world’s most volatile conflicts.
