Bangladesh Announces ODI Squad for Sri Lanka Series – Litton Das Returns

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 16-member squad for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, with Litton Das earning a recall despite his recent struggles in the 50-over format. Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain justified the decision, citing Litton’s role as T20 captain and the need for him to regain form through match practice. Litton managed just 35 runs in eight ODIs during recent tours of New Zealand and the West Indies, but the selectors are banking on his experience and leadership.

The squad also welcomes back Mohammad Naim, Shamim Hossain, and Hasan Mahmud, while left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam received his maiden ODI call-up after featuring in six T20Is. Naim’s inclusion was based on his strong performances in the Dhaka Premier League, while Soumya Sarkar was left out to recover fully from multiple injuries, including a finger fracture and back spasm. The selectors emphasized the importance of giving players adequate time to heal before returning to international cricket.

In the pace department, Bangladesh has included five fast bowlers—Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Nahid Rana, Tanzim Hasan, and Hasan Mahmud—to manage workloads and ensure fitness. Ashraf highlighted the need for rotation and recovery, especially with a busy schedule ahead. The series marks a transitional phase for Bangladesh cricket following the retirements of Mahmudullah (all formats) and Mushfiqur Rahim (ODIs) after their early exit from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

The three ODIs will be played on July 2, 5, and 8, with the first two matches at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium and the final game in Pallekele. Mehidy Hasan Miraz will lead the side, which features a mix of experienced players and fresh faces, reflecting Bangladesh’s strategy to rebuild and prepare for future challenges. The series will be a crucial test for the team as they look to establish a new core in the post-Mahmudullah-Mushfiqur era.
