Karachi BRT Green Line, Peoples Bus Service Suspended for Muharram

The Karachi Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Green Line service will remain suspended on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram due to security concerns, a spokesperson announced on Friday. Additionally, seven out of ten routes of the Peoples Bus Service will be closed on the 9th and 10th, while five routes will face partial disruptions on the 8th. The decision comes as part of heightened security measures during the sacred month.

The Karachi Traffic Police have released a detailed diversion plan for these three days. MA Jinnah Road will be closed from Guru Mandir to Tower, with commuters advised to use alternative routes. Those traveling from Nazimabad should take Lasbela Chowk via Garden, while Liaquatabad-bound commuters can use Martin Road after Teen Hatti. Hassan Square travelers may opt for Kashmir Road under Jail Flyover or take Shahrah-e-Quaideen via Society Light Signal.

The federal government has declared July 5 and 6 (9th and 10th Muharram) as public holidays. Ashura, observed on the 10th of Muharram, marks the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in Karbala. The day is commemorated with processions, majalis, and sermons across Pakistan under strict security arrangements.

Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement and follow traffic advisories to ensure smooth movement during Muharram processions. The suspension of key transport services aims to facilitate security deployments and prevent potential disruptions. Citizens are encouraged to stay updated on route changes and plan their travel accordingly.
