Jemima Goldsmith, the ex-wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has strongly criticized the Pakistani government for threatening to detain her sons if they visit their father in prison. Khan, who has been incarcerated since August 2023, faces multiple charges following his removal from power in April 2022. Goldsmith took to X to express outrage, stating that her children are denied even phone contact with their father, calling the situation “undemocratic and vindictive.”
The controversy escalated after PM’s adviser Rana Sanaullah warned that Khan’s sons would be arrested if they entered Pakistan to participate in PTI protests. Defending his stance, Sanaullah argued that anyone leading a “violent movement” would face consequences. His remarks have drawn sharp backlash from Khan’s family and supporters, who view the statement as an intimidation tactic to suppress dissent.
Kasim Khan, Imran’s son, also condemned his father’s treatment, revealing that the former PM has spent over 700 days in solitary confinement without proper legal access or family visits. “This is not justice—it’s an attempt to break him,” Kasim wrote, accusing authorities of isolating Khan despite his advocacy for democracy and rule of law.
The case has intensified scrutiny over Pakistan’s political climate, with critics labeling Khan’s imprisonment as politically motivated. As PTI plans nationwide protests, the government’s hardline stance risks further backlash, both domestically and internationally. The situation underscores deepening political divisions and raises concerns about fundamental rights in Pakistan.
