The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has rejected a proposal to disclose the identities of judges cleared of misconduct complaints, upholding its traditional policy of confidentiality. In a meeting chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, the council dismissed 19 complaints filed under Article 209 of the Constitution, while five others were deferred for further deliberation. The session, attended by senior judges including Justice Mansoor Ali Shah (via video link), Justice Munib Akhtar, and Justice Aalia Neelum, lasted two hours at the Supreme Court in Islamabad.
Additionally, the SJC approved the Supreme Judicial Council Secretariat Service Rules, 2025, marking a procedural update in judicial administration. However, the council noted that the enquiry process and potential amendments to the Code of Conduct require further legal scrutiny before implementation. The decision reinforces the judiciary’s cautious approach to transparency while balancing accountability and judicial independence.
