Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah emphasized his government’s dedication to higher education and digital empowerment during the inauguration of new buildings at NED University and the distribution of Chromebooks to top performers of the People’s Information Technology Programme (PITP). The event, attended by key education and IT leaders, highlighted Sindh’s record Rs. 42 billion allocation for public universities—the highest among all provinces—to support research, infrastructure, and innovation.
New Infrastructure & Gender Inclusivity
CM Shah inaugurated two major projects at NED University: a Rs. 96.48 million Food Engineering Department building and a Rs. 67.11 million International Boys Hostel. Additionally, a Rs. 98.52 million Girls Hostel was recognized for promoting gender inclusivity in engineering education. These developments underscore the government’s focus on modernizing academic facilities and ensuring equal opportunities.
PITP Success & Chromebook Awards
The People’s IT Programme (PITP-I) has already trained 13,565 students, exceeding targets, with 4,353 graduates securing jobs—contributing Rs. 49 million to the economy. CM Shah also distributed 300 Chromebooks to top performers based on strict merit criteria, with training by Google’s partner, Tech Valley, set for April 2025. The programme’s inclusive approach is evident, with 40% female participation at Sukkur IBA and 62% rural students at MUET.
PITP-II: Expanding Digital Opportunities
Building on this success, CM Shah announced PITP-II with a Rs. 1.4 billion budget, aiming to train 35,000 students in 12 high-demand IT fields. The initiative will award 1,750 Chromebooks to top performers and is projected to create a Rs. 5.04 billion economic impact over five years. “We are building a knowledge economy,” Shah stated, reaffirming his vision for a digitally empowered and inclusive Sindh.
