Balochistan CM Orders Probe Into Shocking Social Media Video of Alleged Honour Killing

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has taken immediate notice of a disturbing video circulating on social media that appears to depict the brutal murder of a man and a woman. The provincial government confirmed that the CM has directed law enforcement agencies to launch a swift investigation and arrest all individuals involved in the incident.

Government spokesperson Shahid Rind strongly condemned the act, labeling it as “barbaric” and affirming that such violence would not be tolerated. “No one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands,” Rind stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring justice. However, the authenticity of the video and the exact circumstances of the killings remain unverified.

Social media users have speculated that the killings were carried out in the name of “honour,” a persistent issue in Pakistan. According to a 2024 report by the Sustainable Social Development Organisation (SSDO), 547 honour killings were reported across the country, with conviction rates remaining alarmingly low at under 2%.

The trend of honour killings has shown no signs of decline, with 346 cases recorded between January and November 2024. Previous years also saw high numbers, with 490 cases in 2023 and 590 in 2022. Activists continue to call for stricter enforcement of laws to curb such brutal crimes and protect vulnerable individuals.
