KARACHI – The Sindh government has unveiled an unprecedented Rs42 billion budget for public universities in the fiscal year 2025-26, marking the highest education allocation among all provinces in Pakistan. The announcement was made by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, who highlighted the province’s commitment to modernizing education and empowering youth with digital skills.
Phase 2 of People’s IT Program Launched with Rs1.4 Billion
Building on the success of its People’s Information Technology Program (PITP), the Sindh government has initiated the second phase with a Rs1.4 billion investment—the largest such provincial initiative in the country. Under Phase 1, 13,565 students received training in advanced IT fields, while 300 high-achievers were awarded Google Chromebooks and laptops through a merit-based selection process. The expanded Phase 2 aims to train 35,000 students across 12 high-demand IT disciplines, further integrating youth into the digital economy.
Infrastructure Boost for Higher Education
Memon also highlighted key infrastructure developments, including:
✔ Rs96.481 million for NED University’s new Food Engineering Department
✔ Rs67.11 million for the International Boys Hostel, now operational
These projects underscore the government’s focus on enhancing higher education facilities to meet global standards.
A Vision for Youth & Economic Growth
“Sindh is not just educating youth but preparing them for practical life,” Memon stated. He emphasized that these initiatives will enable young people to contribute meaningfully to Pakistan’s economy, calling them a “guarantee of the province’s development.” With its record-breaking budget and tech-driven training programs, Sindh is paving the way for a skilled, future-ready workforce.
