Karachi (Sports Reporter) The office bearers and all members of the Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS) have strongly condemned the murderous attack and robbery on Zahid Ghaffar, a senior sports journalist and member of SJAS and Karachi Press Club. The threats to the lives of journalists have now increased in Karachi. When Suno News Channel reporter Zahid Ghaffar left his office for home, two armed suspects on a motorcycle chased him on the way and tried to stop him. When Zahid Ghaffar did not stop, they hit him with a bike and threatened to kill him with a pistol. The incident took place on Saturday night at the Umer Sharif underpass on Shaheed-e-Millat Road.
A report of the incident was filed at the Firozabad Police Station. The armed suspects kept threatening to kill senior journalist Zahid Ghaffar and deprived him of valuables. The incidents of targeting journalists in Karachi city are increasing. The suspects have also seriously injured several journalists in such operations, some of whom have lost their lives. This is the fourth consecutive incident with senior journalist Zahid Ghaffar. Earlier in 2018, Zahid Ghaffar was threatened with death at gunpoint while he was returning home from the hospital with his wife. In 2022 and 2024, the accused stole his bike from in front of his house.
FIRs of all the incidents were registered in the relevant police stations, but the accused involved in the incident are still roaming SJAS has appealed to the authorities, especially the Home Minister and the IG Sindh, to take immediate action to protect Zahid Ghaffar’s life and compensate him for his loss.
