Incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan’s sons, Sulaiman and Kasim Khan, held a significant meeting with Richard Grenell, a former aide to US President Donald Trump. The discussion took place in California ahead of PTI’s planned protests demanding Khan’s release from prison. Grenell, the US special presidential envoy for special missions, later tweeted his support, urging the brothers to “stay strong” and emphasizing global opposition to political prosecutions.
Kasim Khan, in a social media post, condemned the Pakistani government for his father’s prolonged detention, alleging severe mistreatment. He stated that Imran Khan, who has been in jail since August 2023, has been denied legal access, family visits, and medical care. Kasim described the situation as a deliberate attempt to break a leader who championed democracy and rule of law.
The meeting was also attended by Dr. Asif Mahmood, a Pakistani-American physician, who praised Sulaiman and Kasim for their bravery in advocating for their father’s freedom. Meanwhile, Kasim criticized the government’s hypocrisy, pointing out that his father, who fought against corruption, is now imprisoned on similar charges.
PTI leaders have confirmed that Khan’s sons will eventually return to Pakistan to participate in the party’s protest movement. However, senior government officials have warned that they could face arrest upon arrival. The situation has drawn sharp criticism, including from Jemima Goldsmith, who slammed authorities for threatening to further isolate Imran Khan from his family.
