SC constitutional bench goes live for first time, resumes hearing review pleas on reserved seats

In a landmark move, a constitutional bench of the Supreme Court live-streamed its proceedings for the first time as it resumed hearing review pleas against the court’s ruling on PTI’s eligibility for reserved seats. The 11-member bench, led by Justice Aminuddin Khan, is deliberating on petitions filed by PML-N, PPP, and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The review petitions challenge the court’s July 12, 2024, ruling that declared PTI eligible for reserved seats, potentially making it the single largest party in the National Assembly. The ECP and other petitioners have raised objections to the ruling, which has not been implemented yet.
Senior counsel Makhdoom Ali Khan represented PML-N and PPP women candidates affected by the July 2024 ruling. The live-streamed proceedings are available on the SC’s YouTube channel, marking a significant step towards transparency and public engagement with the judicial process.
