Two people were killed and 14 others injured in a bomb explosion in Wana tehsil, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lower South Waziristan district, on Thursday, according to police. District Police Officer Tahir Khan confirmed that two individuals died in the blast, while two policemen were among the injured. The wounded were rushed to Wana District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
Authorities have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend those responsible for the attack. DPO Khan stated that an investigation is ongoing to determine the type of explosive used in the blast. Security forces remain on high alert as they work to ensure no further threats linger in the region.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over the open display of firearms and unrestricted movement of armed individuals in Wana’s Rustam Bazaar, a key commercial area in Lower South Waziristan. Local sources revealed that strict measures will soon be enforced to ban the carrying of weapons in public spaces. Residents have repeatedly raised alarms over the unchecked presence of armed men in the area.
This attack follows another violent incident in the region, where a police constable and another individual were injured after the vehicle of Upper South Waziristan’s deputy commissioner was targeted in Ladha tehsil. The recent surge in violence has heightened tensions, prompting calls for intensified security operations to restore stability in the district.
