The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved a Rs1.89 per unit decrease in electricity tariffs under the quarterly adjustment for April-June 2025. The decision, forwarded to the federal government for final notification, will benefit all power distribution companies (Discos), including K-Electric consumers. The revised rates will appear in August’s electricity bills and remain effective for three months (August-October 2025), providing Rs55.8 billion in nationwide relief.
This follows last month’s Nepra-approved reductions, where K-Electric users received a Rs4.03 per unit cut under the fuel cost adjustment, while other consumers enjoyed a 50-paisa per unit reduction. Additionally, the federal government abolished provincial electricity duties starting July 1, further lowering bills. These measures aim to ease financial pressure on households and businesses amid rising inflation.
The Rs1.89 per unit reduction will directly lower electricity expenses for millions of consumers. The adjustment will be visible in August bills, offering immediate relief. Nepra’s decision aligns with efforts to stabilize power costs after recent fuel price fluctuations and policy reforms.
With this cut, the government continues its push to make electricity more affordable. The removal of provincial duties and quarterly tariff adjustments reflect a broader strategy to reduce energy expenses. Will this lead to further reductions?
