Azerbaijan Confers ‘Patriotic War Medal’ on Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir

Rawalpindi: Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of General Staff, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, awarded Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir the ‘Patriotic War Medal’ on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev, recognizing his pivotal role in enhancing bilateral military cooperation.

The ceremony took place during General Valiyev’s visit to General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi, where the two leaders discussed regional security dynamics and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening defence ties. COAS Munir lauded Azerbaijan’s historic peace agreement with Armenia, while General Valiyev commended the professionalism and sacrifices of the Pakistan Armed Forces during Marka-e-Haq—the period of heightened tensions with India earlier this year.

Both leaders emphasized expanding joint military collaboration and working together for regional stability. The Azerbaijani delegation also extended warm wishes for Pakistan’s upcoming Independence Day celebrations, with COAS Munir thanking Azerbaijan for its unwavering support, including sending troops to participate in the national parade.

This high-profile exchange underscores the growing strategic partnership between the two nations, rooted in mutual trust and shared security interests.
