Malir Submerged: Nine Days On, Rainwater Crisis Paralyzes Daily Life

Malir (Reporter) Drainage of stagnant rainwater has completely failed across several villages and towns of Malir district, leaving roads submerged and traffic flow badly disrupted.Areas including Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Basravi Goth, Qaidabad, Pipri, Ghaghar, Razzaqabad, Memon Goth, Kathore, Abdullah Goth, Shah Latif, Yousuf Asrafani Goth, Bhittaiabad, Safora Chowrangi, Manzil Pump, Airport, and Model Colony have been worst affected, where roads resemble ponds.
Residents complained that even after nine days, rainwater has not been cleared from housing societies near Safora Chowrangi, forcing people to remain confined to their homes. Major arteries such as Airport Road, Shahrah-e-Faisal, and the National Highway are presenting the scene of lakes, with hours-long traffic jams reported.
Stagnant water has submerged vehicles, schools, mosques, and houses, disrupting daily life and keeping children away from schools. Locals expressed anger over the complete absence of the Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation and municipal administrations of Malir and Safora Town.Citizens have demanded that Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, town chairmen of Malir, Ibrahim Hyderi, Gadap, and the Sindh Chief Minister take immediate notice and ensure drainage of the accumulated rainwater.
