Tensions Rise Between Landowners and Builders Over “Education City” Project in Malir

Malir (Investigative & Analytical Report) Major revelations have surfaced regarding the new project launched in District Malir under the name of “Education City.” According to sources, several years ago nearly 1,300 acres of land in Deh Abdar was purchased from local landowners by builder Haji Adam Jokhio, but due to incomplete payments, disputes erupted between the parties.Sources further claim that the builder, along with certain politically influential figures, is now attempting to get thousands of acres of land allotted under the guise of “Education City,” since lease grant policies are not strictly applied to educational and residential projects. Names of high-ranking government officials and political leaders have also been linked to the matter.
Reports indicate that on 26 August 2025, officials of the Revenue Department began survey work in Deh Abdar, but were forced to retreat after strong resistance from local landowners. Meanwhile, affected parties, including Haji Noor Hassan Jokhio, have filed a petition (C.P. 4107) in the Sindh High Court, which is scheduled for hearing on 3 September.Landowners argue that the so-called “Education City” project is in fact an attempt to usurp their agricultural lands. Nearly 80% of the land in question belongs to the Jokhio tribe, while other affected communities include the Rind, Jamot, Kalmati, Khaskheli, Wadhiella, Nohaani, and Magsi tribes.According to political observers, elected representatives from the Jokhio family in Malir have maintained silence on the issue. However, local landowners have vowed to continue their struggle at every level to protect their rights.
