Malir (Correspondent) Workers at Qasim Textile, located near Jogi Morr in Malir, staged a protest against forced dismissals and the company’s refusal to increase wages. The demonstration, joined by members of Pakistan Peoples Party Shaheed Bhutto, was held at the factory’s main gate where workers staged a sit-in and chanted slogans. As a result, hundreds of laborers were prevented from entering the premises.Labor leaders Imran Sirki, Mumtaz Kalhoro, Ali Gul Chandio, Mustafa Jilbani, and Ramzan Memon accused the company of adopting “anti-worker policies.” They claimed that private individuals were being hired in place of regular employees, workers were being unlawfully dismissed, and the government’s officially fixed minimum wage was not being implemented.
The leaders further alleged that the company had failed to regularize employees or address their problems. Instead, workers were being harassed through police arrests, false cases, and threats. They also pointed out that just a few days ago, the tortured body of a worker was recovered, which, according to them, the management and police attempted to cover up.Protesting workers demanded an immediate end to forced dismissals, payment of the legally mandated wages, and the assurance of their basic rights.
