“Language Isn’t the Barrier, Terrorism Is”: India’s Shashi Tharoor Sets Condition for Pakistan Talks

NEW DELHI – Congress MP Shashi Tharoor stated that language differences are not an obstacle to India-Pakistan dialogue, but rather the lack of a shared commitment to peace and Pakistan’s alleged “infrastructure of terrorism.”

Speaking after leading an Indian parliamentary delegation to Brazil, Tharoor claimed success in clarifying India’s counterterrorism stance to Latin American nations. He demanded “demonstrable action” against militants in Pakistan before any talks, questioning: “If Pakistan is innocent, why do wanted terrorists operate freely there?”

Tharoor’s remarks come amid heightened tensions after recent cross-border clashes, where Pakistan downed six Indian jets following New Delhi’s unprovoked strikes. Meanwhile, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is leading a Pakistani delegation globally to counter India’s narrative.

While open to dialogue in Hindi, Punjabi, or English, Tharoor insisted the real issue is Pakistan’s “vision for peace.” Separately, PM Modi highlighted India’s aviation boom, with airlines ordering 2,000+ new jets.
