Karachi: Sindh Home Minister Zia-Ul-Hassan Lanjar visited the Karachi Police Office. On this occasion, IGP Sindh Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, accompanied him. Upon arrival, Addl. IG Karachi and other senior police officials warmly welcomed him, and a well-prepared contingent of the Karachi Police presented a guard of honor.
A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Home Minister Zia-Ul-Hassan Lanjar at the provincial level to review police actions against drug mafias and anti-narcotics efforts. All DIGs attending the meeting provided separate briefings on organized and successful police actions in their respective divisions against drug mafias.
The Home Minister stated that the task force would take action across the province against drug mafias without any pressure and would ensure their arrest. “No one is above the law. Regardless of the influence or status of the accused, they must face justice,” he emphasized.
He further stated that SSsP who fail to act against drug mafias will not only be held accountable but also removed from their positions and asked to explain their inaction. He said that the anti-narcotics task force is active, but from now on, he himself will request reports and ensure direct supervision. He urged all stakeholders to provide effective and practical suggestions for the eradication of drug mafias.
The Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar directed that the existing lists of drug mafias be updated and that efforts to prevent drug trafficking and distribution be made robust, coordinated, and extraordinary.
He added that the investigation and prosecution of cases filed against agents, groups, and patrons of drug mafias should be strengthened to ensure exemplary punishments. He further remarked that drugs are a curse that contributes to the deterioration of law & order and the destruction of our youth, making effective prevention the need of the hour.
On this occasion, the IGP Sindh said that all DIsG are updating the lists of drug mafias according to categories and that he continues to convene meetings to issue guidance on anti-drug measures. He stated that strict actions are being taken against individuals involved in drug networks. Addl. IG Karachi assured the Home Minister that police enforcement of his directives is their top priority.
The meeting at the Karachi Police Office was attended in person by IGP Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, Additional IG Karachi, DIsG of Crime and Investigation, Special Branch, IT, Zonal DIsG and district SSsP of Karachi. DIsG and district SSsP from Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana, Sukkur, and other areas joined via video link.
Earlier, the Sindh Home Minister inaugurated the auditorium and cafeteria at the Karachi Police Office (KPO).
The Home Minister and IGP Sindh also jointly pinned rank badges on 15 SPs who were promoted from the rank of DSP. Both congratulated the newly promoted officers and extended their best wishes.
