Shahdadpur: HPV Vaccination Awareness Campaign Launched in Schools to Prevent Cervical Cancer

Shahdadpur (Report by Sajan Jani) An awareness campaign highlighting the dangers of cervical cancer among women and the importance of HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccination was launched across various schools and colleges in Shahdadpur. Awareness seminars were organized at Government Main Sindhi Primary School, Superior College School, City Grammar College School, Paragon School, and several other institutions. The sessions were addressed by Director SIMS Dr. Bashir Ahmed Jamali, Taluka Health Officer Shahdadpur Dr. Zakir, focal person Dr. Irfan Garwan, gynecologist and surgeon Dr. Sanober Irfan, Deputy DHO Sanghar Dr. Aslam Majeed Chhutto, and Taluka Supervisor Vaccinator Bulando Mari. Speaking on the occasion, health experts stressed that HPV-related cancer is a dangerous disease, causing thousands of deaths among women nationwide each year. They emphasized that the only effective prevention is timely HPV vaccination. The speakers announced that vaccination drives would soon begin under the supervision of SIMS staff at girls’ schools, colleges, private institutions, and through door-to-door campaigns. Parents were urged to actively support the campaign and ensure vaccination of girls aged 9 to 15 years to protect them from this life-threatening illness. Experts highlighted that “prevention is better than cure,” noting that cancer treatment in Pakistan is very expensive and often unaffordable for middle-class families. Officials further stated that if vaccination teams are unable to reach certain areas, parents and institutions can contact SIMS Hospital’s special teams to arrange the vaccinations.
