Oncologist Urges Women to Prioritize Breast Cancer Screening and Reject Stigma

ISLAMABAD: As part of the ongoing initiatives for ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’ this October, a senior oncologist on Saturday urged women to speak out boldly, reject societal stigma, and make preventive care a priority through annual mammograms and self-examinations to safeguard future generations.

Dr. Hadia Aziz, a senior Medical Consultant and Oncologist at CDA Hospital in Islamabad, delivered this crucial message in a video statement on PTV News Channel, underscoring the vital importance of breast cancer awareness.

Speaking during the awareness month, Dr. Aziz encouraged women to take control of their health by emphasizing the importance of early detection and consistent screening routines.

Leveraging her expertise as a breast cancer specialist, she called on women to communicate openly and dispel the fear and shame often associated with the disease. She identified frank discussions and proactive health actions, including mammograms and self-checks, as essential components in the effective fight against breast cancer.

Dr. Hadia stressed that this October should serve as a catalyst for every woman to commit to breaking the silence, elevating public awareness, and prioritizing preventive healthcare to protect themselves and the generations to come.

Her message highlights the critical role of early detection in improving survival rates and saving lives. She advised women to be vigilant for common symptoms, such as lumps or thickening in the breast or underarm area, changes in breast size or shape, nipple discharge, or dimpling of the skin.

The oncologist concluded by stating that by voicing their concerns and adopting proactive health measures, women can protect themselves and their families from the severe impact of breast cancer and achieve better outcomes through timely medical intervention.
