Israel Strikes Iran’s Nuclear and Military Sites, several killed

TEHRAN: Israel launched a large-scale military operation, named Operation Rising Lion, targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, missile manufacturing sites, and key military leaders. The strikes included air attacks and covert sabotage missions led by the Mossad, aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear program and strategic missile capabilities. Explosions were reported in multiple locations across Iran, including Tehran and the critical uranium enrichment site at Natanz.

Iranian state television reported significant casualties, including the death of Hossein Salami, commander of the elite Revolutionary Guards, and several nuclear scientists. Residential areas in Tehran were also hit, resulting in civilian deaths, including children. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei condemned the Israeli strikes as a “wicked and bloody” crime and vowed severe retaliation against Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the operation as a necessary preemptive strike to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, warning that Iran possessed enough enriched uranium to produce up to 15 bombs within days. He emphasized that the campaign would continue “for as many days as it takes” to neutralize the threat, framing the operation as critical to Israel’s survival and regional security.

In response to the attacks, Israel declared a state of emergency and closed its airspace, while activating air defense systems in anticipation of Iranian missile and drone retaliation. Tens of thousands of Israeli soldiers were mobilized, and the government prepared for a potential escalation of hostilities. The United States distanced itself from the operation, warning Iran against targeting American assets but not participating directly.

The strikes mark the most significant Israeli attack on Iran since the 1980s Iran-Iraq War and have dramatically heightened tensions in the Middle East. The international community remains on alert as both sides brace for further conflict, with concerns over the potential for a broader regional war and disruption to global oil supplies.
