ROME: Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner stated on Thursday that his participation in the upcoming Davis Cup finals is uncertain, as Italy prepares to defend its title on home soil.
“I haven’t decided yet, I don’t know,” Sinner was quoted as saying by Italian broadcaster Sky Sport while competing at the Six Kings Slam exhibition tournament in Riyadh.
The world number two’s comments follow his recent withdrawal from the Shanghai Masters last week, where he was forced to retire in the third round due to cramping in his right thigh.
Addressing the physical issue, Sinner said, “We’ll try to work out why I had cramp, sometimes you just don’t know why. Sometimes things can happen but I’m OK, that’s the important thing.”
Sinner is currently set to face Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals of the exhibition event in Saudi Arabia, a match where the winner will earn a $6 million prize.
Italy secured its first Davis Cup title since 1976 two years ago, a victory largely credited to Sinner, and successfully defended the trophy in 2024. The final eight stage of the 2025 Davis Cup is scheduled to take place in Bologna from November 18-23.
