Federal Cabinet to Consider Ban on Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan Following Violent Protests

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has indicated that a ban on the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) is imminent, with the federal cabinet scheduled to review the matter in its meeting today.

During a press conference in Lahore on Thursday, Bokhari referenced the religious party’s recent violent protest. She stated that individuals who took to the streets under the pretext of “liberating Gaza and Palestine” were responsible for setting property ablaze.

“The federal government is expected to make a decision regarding the TLP soon,” the provincial minister said, alluding to a formal summary the Punjab government sent to the Centre recommending a ban on the party.

Bokhari provided further details on the incident, alleging that TLP protesters tortured police personnel and seized official vehicles. She also reported that civil property was damaged and private vehicles were set on fire.

In a related development, the minister announced a new policy for Punjab, stating that new arms licenses of any kind will no longer be issued. “We have to move towards the determination to make Punjab free of arms,” she affirmed.
