Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Urges UN Action Over Indian Aggression in High-Level Meeting at Security Council

United Nations: A high-level Pakistani parliamentary delegation, led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, met with the President of the UN Security Council for June, H.E. Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett of Guyana. The meeting is part of Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic engagement to address growing tensions in South Asia following recent Indian military actions.

Bilawal Bhutto conveyed Pakistan’s grave concern over what he called India’s baseless allegations after the Pahalgam attack, made without credible investigation or evidence. He condemned India’s unilateral military aggression, including attacks on civilians and suspension of the Indus Water Treaty — describing it as a dangerous attempt to weaponize a vital resource and undermine international legal frameworks.

Bhutto emphasized that Pakistan remains a strong opponent of terrorism in all forms and is itself a major victim of it. He warned against using terrorism as a justification for illegal, unilateral military actions that threaten the region’s fragile peace.

The delegation called for an immediate ceasefire, restoration of the Indus Water Treaty, and comprehensive dialogue with India focused on resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute — which Bhutto labeled essential for long-term peace in South Asia.

He urged the Security Council to uphold its responsibility by ensuring de-escalation, adherence to international law, and progress toward a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue in line with past UN resolutions.

Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to international peace and security in accordance with its mandate.
