Bilawal Bhutto’s Interview with Karan Thapar Called a “Diplomatic Win” for Pakistan

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s recent interview with renowned Indian journalist Karan Thapar has been hailed as a significant diplomatic achievement for the country. Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon lauded Bilawal’s performance, stating that the PPP leader effectively presented Pakistan’s stance on critical issues, including terrorism, with remarkable confidence and foresight.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Memon, who also serves as Sindh’s Minister for Information and Transport, emphasized that Bilawal’s articulate and composed demeanor during the interview stood in stark contrast to Thapar’s apparent unease. He noted that Thapar—a journalist known for his tough questioning—was repeatedly put on the back foot, a rare occurrence given his reputation. Memon recalled how Thapar had once removed his microphone during an interview with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, yet Bilawal managed to hold his ground and steer the discussion.

Memon described the conversation as “a powerful diplomatic representation of Pakistan” rather than a mere media exchange. He praised Bilawal for his ideological depth and thorough preparation, which allowed him to present Pakistan’s history, policies, and vision convincingly. According to Memon, such articulate diplomacy is urgently needed to shape Pakistan’s global image amid complex geopolitical challenges.

The minister also highlighted that Bilawal is emerging as a respected international voice for Pakistan, representing the next generation of leadership. His ability to engage with seasoned journalists and global policymakers, Memon argued, reflects his growing stature in international diplomacy. The interview has since sparked discussions on Pakistan’s media strategy and diplomatic outreach, with many viewing it as a benchmark for future engagements.
