Canal Breach Ravages Crops in Tando Adam; Locals Accuse Irrigation Department of Negligence

Tandoadam (Ahsan Kaloi)Tando AdamA breach over 50 feet wide occurred in the Sui Kundar minor canal near NIPRD-40 and RD-42, inundating hundreds of acres of standing crops, including cotton, sugarcane, banana, and others in villages Waqar Junejo, Hashim Sand, and surrounding areas.
Despite being informed, irrigation officials failed to reach the site, leaving villagers struggling on a self-help basis to plug the breach. The locals said that breaches in this canal have become a routine matter every three months due to weak embankments, while no action is taken by the irrigation staff, particularly the SDO, surveyor, and baildars. They alleged that negligence and corruption by the irrigation department is the main reason behind these repeated breaches, which destroy their crops and force villagers to leave their homes to escape flooding. The villagers demanded immediate removal of the SDO, surveyor, and baildars, and called for the appointment of honest officers as well as the reconstruction of the canal banks to protect them from future floods
