Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Visit India for Border Talks Amid Thawing Relations

BEIJING – China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to visit India from Monday to Wednesday for discussions on the disputed Himalayan border, the Chinese foreign ministry announced on Saturday. This marks only the second high-level meeting since the deadly 2020 clash between Indian and Chinese troops along the border.

Ties between the two Asian powers have been improving following an agreement last October on joint patrolling of the Himalayan border, which helped ease a five-year standoff affecting trade, investment, and air travel.

Additionally, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping later this month during his first trip to China in seven years. Modi will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, a regional security forum that both nations are part of.
