Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has launched an ambitious urban renewal program for Hyderabad, targeting illegal constructions and infrastructure deficiencies. During a press conference at the Mayor’s office, the CM clarified that eight-storey encroachments along Auto Bhan Road were approved by previous governments, not the current administration. He identified three additional areas plagued by unauthorized construction, promising swift action to restore order in Sindh’s second-largest city.
Rain Response and Infrastructure Upgrades
Following a cloudburst that dumped 107mm of rain in one hour, CM Shah inspected flood-affected areas including Civil Lines and Qasimabad. He revealed Hyderabad’s unique drainage challenge as a low-lying city dependent on pumping stations, ordering HESCO to prevent power outages during rains. The administration successfully drained 90% of floodwater within 10 hours, though pumping continues in some areas. Road projects remain on track, with Auto Bhan Phases I-II completing this month and Phase III by February 2025.
Sports and Recreational Developments
In a major boost for sports tourism, the CM confirmed discussions with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to host PSL matches at Niaz Stadium next year. The venue will also welcome six international teams for September 2025’s Wheelchair Cricket Asian Championship. A new public park, D Park, will open in August, complementing the recently rehabilitated Niaz Stadium. These initiatives aim to enhance Hyderabad’s profile while providing quality recreational spaces for residents.
Mega Projects for Sustainable Growth
The government is executing Rs. 2200 million road projects along Pinyari Canal’s banks to ease traffic congestion. The 7.4km right bank and 9.8km left bank roads will connect key transit points when completed. CM Shah personally monitored progress on the Abdul Sattar Edhi Flyover, stressing quality construction despite encroachment challenges. With filter plants underway in Latifabad and Qasimabad, plus new ADP projects near Hala Naka, the administration demonstrates its commitment to holistic development. “Hyderabad remains our top priority,” affirmed the CM, pledging to honor public trust through transparent, impactful governance.
