A district and sessions court in Islamabad formally indicted Umar Hayat, a fellow social media content creator also known as “Kaka,” on Saturday in connection with the murder of 17-year-old influencer Sana Yousaf. The victim, who had over a million followers across digital platforms, was shot twice inside her home in Islamabad’s G-13/1 sector on June 2, 2025. Hayat was charged under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code for murder but pleaded not guilty, denying all allegations against him.
During the hearing before Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal, Hayat refuted both the murder accusation and claims that he had stolen Yousaf’s mobile phone after the shooting. The court has adjourned the case until September 25 to proceed with witness statements and evidence presentation. According to initial investigations, the victim was alone at home with her aunt at the time of the incident, as her parents were out and her younger brother was away visiting relatives.
The victim’s aunt, who witnessed the event, provided a key statement to police indicating that Hayat had come to meet Sana and that a brief argument ensued. She recalled hearing Sana tell him, “Go away from here. There are cameras all around and I will fetch you some water,” moments before shots were fired. The case has drawn significant public and media attention due to Sana Yousaf’s prominence as a young digital creator and the brutal nature of the crime allegedly committed by someone from within the social media community.
