Professor Dr. Riaz Ahmad, a renowned orthopedic surgeon from Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) and its affiliated hospitals, has been appointed as an International Advisor to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG).
Dr. Jamal Nasir, the former Provincial Health Minister of Punjab, extended his warm congratulations to Professor Dr. Riaz Ahmad. He described the appointee as a “hardworking, sincere, and highly skilled professional who is a source of pride for the nation.”
Dr. Nasir stated that this prestigious appointment is an honor not just for Rawalpindi Medical University, but for the entire country. He voiced his confidence that Dr. Riaz Ahmad would continue to play a pivotal role in aligning Pakistan’s medical institutions with international standards through his visionary leadership.
Even post-retirement, Professor Dr. Riaz Ahmad maintains a strong connection with his alma mater. He continues to serve RMU in several honorary capacities, including as an Advisor to the Vice Chancellor, Director of Artificial Intelligence, and Chairman of the Ranking Committee.
In acknowledgment of his lifelong service, the university honored him with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024. Dr. Riaz Ahmad is counted among the few Pakistani experts who have earned global recognition for the country through their knowledge, research, and professional excellence. He is also an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the International College of Surgeons, and AO Trauma.
His new role as International Advisor to the RCPSG represents a significant milestone in fostering academic, research, and professional collaborations between Pakistan and this esteemed global institution.

Throughout his career, Professor Dr. Riaz Ahmad has held key leadership positions, including Dean and Head of the Departments of Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, and Trauma. He pursued specialized training in multiple countries, including Pakistan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, and Singapore. As a supervisor for MS and FCPS programs, he has mentored numerous postgraduate students, and under his guidance, several research papers have been published and acclaimed both nationally and internationally.
