Ed Sheeran Opens Up About Fan Threats and Protecting His Family

Ed Sheeran has opened up about the darker side of fame, discussing how obsessive fans have led him to implement high-level security measures to protect his wife Cherry Seaborn and their two daughters. In a candid interview with Australia’s 60 Minutes on July 27, Sheeran revealed chilling examples, including kidnapping threats, attempted break-ins, and disturbing items left on his car. The British superstar emphasized that these incidents go beyond ordinary fan enthusiasm, describing them as “way more sinister than just fans turning up and wanting selfies.”

Sheeran spoke about the constant need for vigilance, stating, “We have a level of security that probably won’t change until I pass away. That’s just our life now.” He explained how these ongoing threats mean his family’s safety will remain a top priority indefinitely. The singer made it clear he is especially protective of his daughters’ privacy, refusing to allow fans to take photographs with them—a stance that has even led to heated confrontations.

Ed shared that while he is happy to interact with supporters himself, he finds it inappropriate when people request photos with his four-year-old and three-year-old. He stated, “I’ve had some real arguments before,” expressing discomfort at how fame can blur respectful boundaries. Despite the challenges, Sheeran remains hopeful for some sense of normalcy and a more grounded existence for his children as they grow up.

The “Shape of You” hit-maker accepted that both positive and negative aspects come with living in the public eye, affirming, “To be within the public sphere, you have to take it all, the good and the bad.” As Ed prepares to tour Australia next year, he continues to balance his celebrated career with the protective role he prioritizes at home.
