Explosion Partially Damages Girls’ School in Lakki Marwat

An explosion caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) partially damaged a girls’ primary school in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa late Saturday night. According to District Police Officer (DPO) Nazeer Khan, the incident occurred in the Wanda Zahid Gul area. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as the school was empty at the time of the blast.

A heavy contingent of police was deployed to the scene following the explosion. Upon inspection, officers discovered that a second IED had been planted at the school alongside the one that detonated. The bomb disposal squad was called in and successfully defused the unexploded device, preventing further damage and potential harm.

DPO Khan confirmed that a search operation is currently underway in the district to locate the perpetrators responsible for the attack. The incident is the latest in a series of security challenges facing the region, which has long been a hotspot for terrorism and militant activity dating back to the early 2000s.

This attack continues a troubling pattern of violence in Lakki Marwat. Earlier this month, terrorists carried out a series of attacks in the district that killed three soldiers and a woman, while injuring three others. Just days ago, on August 13, militants blew up a gas pipeline in the same district, resulting in a suspension of gas supply to Punjab and highlighting the persistent security threats in the area.
