ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) has officially introduced a reconfigured grading formula for Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examinations.
This updated grading scheme is scheduled for implementation starting with the First Annual Examinations of 2026 for students in SSC-I and HSSC-I. It will then be applied to the SSC-II and HSSC-II levels from the First Annual Examinations of 2027.
According to the FBISE notification, the new structure features refined performance descriptors. Candidates achieving marks between 96% and 100% will be granted an A++ grade, categorized as “Extraordinary.” An A+ grade, labeled “Exceptional,” will be awarded for scores from 91% to 95%.
Similarly, a score range of 86% to 90% will correspond to an A grade (“Outstanding”).
For the subsequent brackets, 81% to 85% will earn a B++ (“Excellent”), and 76% to 80% will receive a B+ (“Very Good”). The B grade (“Good”) will be assigned for marks between 71% and 75%.
The board has also outlined grades for the middle score ranges: 61% to 70% will secure a C+ (“Fairly Good”), and 51% to 60% will correspond to a C grade (“Above Average”).
Students obtaining marks from 40% to 50% will be given a D grade, described as “Emerging.” Any candidate scoring below 40% will be designated as “Ungraded.”
The notification further clarified that students who do not qualify in the examinations will have the opportunity to reappear, subject to fulfilling the board’s other stipulated conditions.
