Nawabshah : First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, accompanied by the Sindh Minister for Health and Population Welfare, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, visited the 450-bed Institute of Mother & Child Health (IM&CH) in Nawabshah. They were received by the hospital’s Executive Director, Dr. Ali Akber Siyal, and other senior medical officials, alongside key regional administrators including the Deputy Commissioner and SSP of Shaheed Benazirabad.
The high-level delegation conducted an extensive tour of the hospital’s critical care units. They inspected the fully operational Pediatric High Dependency Unit (HDU), the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) equipped with ventilators, and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) featuring incubators and neonatal ventilators. The visit also included reviews of the Gynecology HDU with ventilator support, the Operation Theatre, and the Labour Room. The purpose of the tour was to facilitate constructive discussions on enhancing maternal and child healthcare services, promoting collaboration between departments, and further elevating patient care standards.
Beyond healthcare services, the First Lady specifically reviewed the institution’s preparedness for floods and other emergencies. She emphasized the necessity of ensuring that medical facilities remain fully equipped and ready to respond effectively to a large-scale disaster, such as a super flood. This focus underscores a commitment to safeguarding the most vulnerable populations, particularly women and children, during crises. The IM&CH is a crucial healthcare provider in the region, catering to a large patient load with nearly 1,500 outpatient visits recorded daily across its pediatrics and gynecology departments
