At least five people were injured, and rescue operations were ongoing after a five-storey building collapsed in Karachi’s Lyari area on Friday. According to officials, the injured were immediately shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment. The building, located on Fida Hussain Shaikha Road in the Baghdadi neighborhood, crumbled unexpectedly, leaving several people trapped under the debris.
Police and rescue teams swiftly arrived at the scene to assist in the emergency response. Authorities confirmed that efforts were underway to pull out survivors from the rubble. The exact number of people still trapped remains unclear, but rescue workers are racing against time to save as many lives as possible.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took immediate notice of the incident, directing rescue teams to expedite efforts. He also ordered that the injured receive prompt medical attention. “This is an unfortunate incident; concerned authorities should submit an immediate report,” CM Murad stated, emphasizing the need for accountability.
The chief minister further instructed the Sindh Building Control Authority to identify dilapidated structures across Karachi to prevent future tragedies. “Dangerous buildings must be flagged immediately, and proactive measures should be taken to ensure public safety,” he said. CM Murad warned that negligence would not be tolerated, stressing that protecting human lives remains the top priority.
