Torrential rains pounded the Mansehra district and its adjoining areas, triggering flash floods in local streams and nullahs. The intense downpour caused a seasonal stream to overflow, sending floodwaters into residential houses and commercial markets. The force of the water resulted in damage to at least one house, while three vehicles were swept away by the powerful currents.
The flooding also posed a direct threat to a local madrassa, putting the students inside at risk. Rescue teams were promptly deployed to the scene and successfully managed to evacuate all the students from the building, ensuring no casualties were reported from the incident.
This localised event coincides with a broader weather warning for the region. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert forecasting heavy rains in Islamabad and various districts of Punjab starting today, Monday, and continuing until September 3.
The alert suggests a heightened risk of similar urban flooding and flash flood events in other parts of the country over the next few days. Authorities are urging citizens in vulnerable and low-lying areas to exercise extreme caution and stay updated with official weather advisories.
