FM Dar calls on Iranian president, reaffirms deep commitment to ties

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian in Islamabad on Sunday, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to deepening historic ties with its neighbor. During the meeting, Dar emphasized the strong foundations of the bilateral relationship, rooted in shared cultural heritage, faith, and mutual respect, according to a Foreign Office statement.

President Pezeshkian acknowledged Pakistan’s support and expressed Iran’s determination to enhance cooperation across various sectors. He said he looked forward to productive discussions with Pakistani leadership to further strengthen political and economic relations between the two nations.

Speaking to the media afterward, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for Iran, particularly in trade and economic collaboration. He welcomed the Iranian president’s alignment with Pakistan’s goal of increasing bilateral trade to $10 billion, calling it a timely and necessary step. “Expanding economic coordination is not just beneficial but essential for both countries,” Dar stated.

The high-level engagement comes as both nations seek to bolster regional stability and economic partnerships. The discussions are expected to pave the way for enhanced cooperation in energy, connectivity, and security, reinforcing the longstanding brotherly ties between Pakistan and Iran.
