Fourth Monsoon Spell to Batter Punjab Until July 25, Flood Alerts Issued

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecast heavy monsoon rains across most districts of Punjab, with the fourth spell expected to persist until July 25. The PDMA spokesperson stated that this wave will be more intense, affecting major cities such as Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and Multan. Upper catchment areas are at particular risk, with increased water flow likely in rivers and streams.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali warned of potential flooding in Punjab’s rivers, including the Ravi, Jhelum, Sutlej, and Chenab. The Indus River is already experiencing moderate flooding at Taunsa, while low-level floods continue at Tarbela, Kalabagh, and Chashma. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant and follow safety advisories.

Meanwhile, rain-related disasters have claimed 13 more lives in the past 24 hours, raising the nationwide death toll to 216 since June 26. Punjab reported 12 fatalities, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded one. Among the victims were four children and three women. Structural collapses due to weak infrastructure remain the leading cause of deaths. Punjab remains the worst affected, with 135 fatalities, followed by KP (42), Sindh (21), and Balochistan (16).

In Karachi, light showers brought relief after days of humid weather, with the highest rainfall (2.3mm) recorded on University Road. The Met Office predicts cloudy skies and possible rain in the next 24 hours, with temperatures ranging between 29°C and 34°C. Another monsoon system may hit Sindh in late July, raising concerns for further disruptions. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts.
