Government Vows Institutional Backing to Restore Pakistan’s Hockey Glory

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has pledged complete support for the revival and promotion of hockey across Pakistan, declaring it a top priority for national sports development.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar chaired a crucial meeting on Wednesday to evaluate the current state of hockey in the country. The session was attended by the Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination, Information Minister, Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) president, and senior officials from relevant ministries.

Recognizing hockey as Pakistan’s national sport, the committee emphasized the need for institutional strengthening and long-term development plans. “We are fully committed to providing all necessary resources and policy support to elevate hockey’s standing,” Dar stated during the meeting.

The discussion focused on implementing sustainable programs to nurture talent, improve infrastructure, and enhance Pakistan’s competitiveness in international hockey. The PHF leadership presented proposals for grassroots initiatives and professional training systems to reclaim Pakistan’s historic dominance in the sport.

This renewed governmental focus marks a significant step toward reviving Pakistan’s hockey legacy after years of decline in international rankings.
