Government vows to end favoritism in Sports, announces reforms

ISLAMABAD : In a significant move to reform Pakistan’s sports sector, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program (PMYP), Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, announced that the era of favoritism in sports is coming to an end.
Addressing a delegation of the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Sports Journalists Association (RISJA) at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Khan emphasized the government’s commitment to merit-based opportunities for young athletes.
Khan revealed that the government is working on infrastructure development, reviving departmental sports, and talent hunting across nine sports disciplines under the Prime Minister Youth Program (PMYP).
He highlighted plans to establish academies for talented players and continue the positive sports culture initiated in Punjab.
He commented that a  key focus will be the Arshad Nadeem Center of Excellence, with a substantial fund allocation and a master plan to be developed in consultation with stakeholders, including the Pakistan Olympic Association.
Under the Prime Minister Youth Program, player development initiatives are being implemented this year across nine different sports. “We have immense talent in the country, and we must provide opportunities based on merit,” he emphasized.
