Heavy Rains Kill 11 Across Pakistan, More Downpours Forecast

At least 11 people have died in rain-related incidents across Pakistan as heavy downpours, strong winds, and dust storms wreaked havoc in multiple regions. The fatalities were reported from Hyderabad, Punjab, Gilgit, and Thehri, with authorities warning of further rainfall and potential flooding.

In Hyderabad, the roof of a madrassa collapsed during the rain, killing two children and injuring 14 others. Punjab recorded six deaths and 25 injuries in various accidents, while in Thehri, a child died after a house caved in. A tragic rescue attempt near Gilgit saw a girl saved from a stream, but her mother and aunt drowned.

Karachi experienced thunderstorms overnight, leading to waterlogged streets and 350 power feeders tripping, causing prolonged outages. Mayor Murtaza Wahab inspected affected areas, including Defence and Clifton, and ordered municipal staff to remain on high alert.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast additional monsoon showers and dust storms, raising flood risks in seasonal nullahs. Meanwhile, Islamabad’s High Court building—constructed just two years ago—reportedly leaked rainwater, exposing infrastructure vulnerabilities. Other areas, like Rahim Yar Khan and Khairpur, faced uprooted trees and submerged underpasses. While rains brought relief to Azad Kashmir and KP, the death toll highlights urgent need for better disaster preparedness
