China has formally reaffirmed its unwavering strategic partnership with Pakistan, explicitly recognizing the Pakistani military as a fundamental force for regional stability. The affirmation came during a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir, on August 21. In an official statement, the Chinese Foreign Ministry praised the Pakistani Army as a “pillar of national stability” and a “strong guardian” of the deep friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted the critical role Pakistan’s military leadership has consistently played in strengthening the bilateral relationship and ensuring the implementation of key agreements reached by both countries’ leaders. He placed the partnership in a global context, stating that “in the face of growing global uncertainties, promoting strong Pakistan–China relations is highly beneficial for regional peace and stability.” He reiterated that China always prioritizes its ties with Pakistan and commended the relationship for growing stronger despite challenging times.
In response, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir described China as Pakistan’s “iron brother,” noting that the two countries have always shared each other’s joys and sorrows. He characterized the strategic partnership as “as solid as a rock,” asserting that maintaining close ties with China is a unanimous stance across Pakistan. General Munir also expressed profound gratitude for China’s significant contributions to Pakistan’s economic and social development.
The meeting concluded with firm commitments to future cooperation. General Munir assured the Chinese side of Pakistan’s continued dedication to enhancing counter-terrorism and security collaboration, specifically pledging that all efforts would be made to ensure the complete protection of Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions in Pakistan. Both sides pledged their full support for deepening the friendship and advancing mutual development through continued cooperation.
