The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast continued drizzle and partly cloudy conditions for Karachi, offering residents relief from the persistent heatwave. With temperatures expected to range between 29°C and 35°C and humidity at 79%, the city’s weather remains sultry but improved compared to recent weeks. A 15 km/h sea breeze is providing some comfort, marking a shift from the oppressive heat that had gripped the metropolis.
Karachi witnessed its first significant rainfall on Friday, followed by intermittent showers in areas like Nazimabad, Bahadurabad, and Sharea Faisal over the weekend. The downpours brought a noticeable drop in the “feels-like” temperature, much to the relief of citizens who had endured sweltering conditions for days. The latest spell on Sunday covered multiple neighborhoods, including Saddar, Malir, and New Karachi, further cooling the environment.
Meanwhile, Islamabad and Rawalpindi experienced more intense weather, with thunderstorms and heavy rainfall reaching up to 60mm in some areas. The PMD recorded 27mm of rain in Saidpur, 15mm in Shamsabad, and 12mm near Kacheri, prompting local authorities to stay vigilant. The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has deployed emergency teams and machinery in low-lying zones to prevent urban flooding and manage any weather-related disruptions.
While the rains have brought temporary relief, the PMD advises residents to stay cautious, as high humidity and sudden downpours may lead to slippery roads and drainage challenges. The showers are expected to continue intermittently, offering hope for further cooling in Karachi and other affected regions. As the monsoon season progresses, authorities remain on high alert to mitigate risks and ensure public safety.
