Karachi Mayor Seeks Rs100 Billion Federal Funding, Launches Sports Complex

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab called for cross-party cooperation to address the city’s pressing challenges, emphasizing that unity is essential for progress. He formally requested Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to approve Rs100 billion in federal funding for Karachi’s infrastructure, healthcare, and sports facilities. Wahab argued that timely financial support would enable large-scale improvements in public services and urban development.

Demonstrating his commitment to youth engagement, Wahab inaugurated a Rs1 billion sports complex spanning 25 acres in Baldia Town. The facility, set for completion in six months, will include football fields, courts, and training centers. The project aligns with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s vision for Karachi’s development, aiming to foster healthy lifestyles and community growth.

Beyond sports, Wahab highlighted ongoing efforts to upgrade healthcare facilities across Karachi. He stressed that improved medical services are critical to meeting citizens’ needs, complementing infrastructure projects like road repairs and water supply enhancements. This multi-sector approach reflects a broader strategy to boost Karachi’s livability and economic potential.

Wahab reiterated that political collaboration and swift fund disbursement are vital for Karachi’s transformation. With the Rs100 billion request pending, he urged the federal government to prioritize the city’s needs. If approved, the funding could accelerate long-delayed projects, proving that unity and investment can drive meaningful change in Pakistan’s largest metropolis.
