Islamabad – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur filed a constitutional petition in the Supreme Court on Wednesday, challenging restrictions on meetings with PTI founder Imran Khan. The plea demands weekly consultations, citing violations of Articles 9, 10-A, and 19 of the Constitution and stressing the need for budget-related discussions.
Appearing before a bench headed by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Gandapur argued that the KP Assembly’s ongoing budget session required Imran Khan’s input. However, Justice Shah refused to entertain the plea, stating, “This is not a judicial matter; approach the SC Registrar or Chief Justice.”
Speaking to media outside the court, Gandapur claimed a “deliberate effort to isolate Imran Khan”, accusing authorities of “handcuffing the judiciary” post the 26th constitutional amendment. He insisted his visit followed Imran’s instructions and expressed hope for a future hearing.
The KP Assembly passed its budget late Tuesday without Imran’s explicit approval, sparking internal dissent. Aleema Khan, Imran’s sister, revealed his dissatisfaction, stating, “The budget should not have been passed without his consent.” She dismissed dissenting MPAs, saying, “Those who can’t bear the burden should go home.”
The petition underscores deepening tensions within PTI and between provincial and federal authorities. With Gandapur vowing to challenge the budget’s legitimacy, the Supreme Court’s response could shape future PTI governance strategie
