Mark Ruffalo Demands Action as Famine is Declared in Gaza

Actor Mark Ruffalo has launched a vehement condemnation of the Israeli military and world leaders following a UN-backed report officially declaring a famine in Gaza City and its surrounding areas. In an impassioned video posted on Instagram, a visibly angry Ruffalo labeled the crisis a “man-made criminal act” perpetrated by Israel and the IDF. He highlighted the stark contrast between stockpiled supplies on one side of the border and the deliberate starvation of civilians on the other, demanding immediate action from leaders in the US, Germany, Europe, and the UK to stop the killing of children and implement a ceasefire.

Ruffalo’s social media post included an equally blunt caption that accused world powers of complicity through their silence. He defined the situation not as a natural disaster but as a deliberate “crime against humanity.” His outcry comes as he and singer Billie Eilish face a sinister form of intimidation for their advocacy; disturbing images are being circulated online showing alleged Israeli missiles inscribed with their names, a tactic seemingly designed to threaten them for speaking out.

Ruffalo and Eilish are prominent voices in a growing celebrity movement supporting Palestine. Both wore Artists4Ceasefire pins at the Oscars, and Eilish has consistently used her Instagram platform to share stories from Gaza, recently condemning Israel’s relocation plans for Palestinians as “horrifying.” Their advocacy highlights the intense public relations battle surrounding the conflict.

The severity of the crisis is detailed in the report from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), which found that over half a million people are now experiencing starvation. The IPC described the famine as “entirely man-made,” a direct result of Israel’s blockade on essential humanitarian supplies. The famine is projected to spread to most of Gaza’s population by late September, with Israel dismissing the report’s findings as “Hamas lies.”
