Monsoon Havoc in Punjab: Death Toll Rises to 135, Urban Flooding Alert Issued

Casualties and Damage Mount
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that 135 people have died and 479 injured in Punjab due to monsoon-related incidents, including roof collapses, electrocutions, and drownings. At least 156 homes have been damaged, mostly from structural failures during heavy downpours.

Fourth Monsoon Wave Approaches
PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia confirmed no rainfall in the past 24 hours but warned that a fresh monsoon spell will begin Sunday evening. Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala face high risks of urban flooding. Residents are urged to prepare for waterlogging and avoid unnecessary travel.

River Conditions and Flood Alerts
While Punjab’s rivers and barrages remain normalmoderate flooding continues at Tarbela, Chashma, and Taunsa on the Indus River. Authorities have banned swimming in rivers, canals, and drains to prevent further tragedies.

Precautionary Measures Activated
The PDMA has deployed rescue teams and resources in vulnerable districts. Citizens are advised to:
✔ Avoid weak structures and standing water
✔ Stay updated on weather alerts
✔ Follow evacuation orders if issued

With more rains forecast, emergency response remains on high alert across the province.
