Muhammad Yasir Sultan Wins Bronze for Pakistan at Asian Throwing Championships

Pakistani javelin thrower Muhammad Yasir Sultan secured a bronze medal at the Asian Throwing Championships on Friday with a season-best throw. The 27-year-old athlete achieved a distance of 77.43 metres on his sixth and final attempt, surpassing his previous season-best of 76.07m set in May. This clutch performance earned him third place on the podium in a highly competitive field.

The gold medal was won by Sri Lanka’s Pathirage Rumesh Tharanga, who was the only athlete to break the 80-metre mark with a powerful throw of 82.05 metres. Japan’s Gen Naganuma claimed the silver medal with a best attempt of 78.60 metres. Yasir was Pakistan’s sole representative at the event and was accompanied by national coach Fayyaz Bukhari.

The championship proceeded without Pakistan’s star javelin sensation and reigning Olympic champion, Arshad Nadeem. Nadeem is currently in a rehabilitation phase following a successful surgery on his calf muscles last month in Cambridge and has not yet regained full fitness.

Due to his ongoing recovery, Arshad Nadeem will also be unable to participate in the upcoming Poland and Switzerland Diamond League events. The athlete captured the world’s attention last year by shattering the Olympic record with a monumental throw of 92.97 metres to win the gold medal in Paris.
