Renowned Pakistani actress Nadia Afghan recently criticized Faysal Quraishi for his English pronunciation in a new drama series. The veteran actress questioned the authenticity of the dialogue delivery, sparking a debate within the entertainment industry.
In response, Faysal Quraishi shared a video conversation with the drama’s director, Shakeel Khan, addressing the criticism. When asked about Nadia’s remarks, Shakeel clarified, “I was present during both editing and shooting. If there were any errors, we would have corrected them.” The director invited specific feedback if any mistakes were indeed found.
Faysal further questioned the repeated use of the word “gottcha” by his character Kabir in the drama. Shakeel explained this creative choice, stating, “In American English, ‘got you’ is often pronounced as ‘gottcha.’ Kabir’s character is heavily influenced by foreign friends, justifying his accent.” He emphasized that the pronunciation was intentionally stylized to reflect the character’s background.
The director elaborated on the complex narrative structure, revealing, “We had to portray multiple personalities within one character – sometimes speaking Urdu, sometimes Punjabi, and sometimes English.” Shakeel stood by the production’s linguistic choices while remaining open to constructive criticism, concluding, “If there are genuine errors, point them out and I’ll acknowledge them.”
